“The New Face of Eastern Ky. Girls Soccer sets their sights on The State Cup.”

The FC Kentucky U13 Girls Youth Soccer Team won the Championship at the “Party on the Pitch” Tournament in Lebanon, Ohio, this past weekend where they went 4 and 0 and dominated the other teams scoring a combined 17 goals to their opponents 3.

This FC Kentucky team is a select travel team which is comprised of players hailing from Ashland, Louisa, Fallsburg, Prestonsburg and Paintsville, Kentucky, along with a number of players formerly with the U12 West Virginia Rowdies hailing from the Tri-State region. The teams decided to combine this summer to create a top-level team that could excel in the Tri-State soccer region. Both teams have had several players that competed for the Kentucky Olympic Development Program (ODP) and the Ohio Premier Select team from Columbus, OH.

The ODP program consists of the top players in the state of Kentucky who compete in high level training camps and tournaments.

The ‘Party on the Pitch’ was the teams’ first opportunity to play together under the same club (FC Kentucky). This event kicked off the teams fall season (which will run from Sept-Nov) and will serve as the first step towards a State Cup title.

Prior to the merger, both teams had considerable success on their own, and often found themselves as rivals in the Kentucky Select Soccer League where they participated against top teams from Lexington, Louisville, Elizabethtown and Owensboro.

Coach Kyle Sniatecki, former Marshall Men’s soccer captain and Regional ODP player from New York, believes this merger was essential for girls success long-term. With this merger he believes he has the best players Eastern KY has to offer at the u-13 girls age group. This opportunity will allow them to train as well as compete together on a week to week basis that will prepare them for regional and national events.

“I am excited and thankful for this opportunity to coach such talented girls, and I strongly believe we can, not only compete, but win a Kentucky State championship this spring.”
